A Florida school was locked down Tuesday morning after a teacher reported seeing a “suspicious” man on campus.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said school resource deputies responded to a report of a suspicious individual on the Martin County High School campus in Stuart at 7:53 a.m. Tuesday. The report triggered a school lockdown.

The sheriff’s office said that “within two minutes of that call” deputies located an allegedly intoxicated man who had walked onto school grounds near the gymnasium. The man was arrested for trespassing.

According to a note sent to school families and staff, an “alert and quick-thinking teacher” spotted the man carrying a guitar case and immediately reported him.

The lockdown was lifted before the school day officially began.

“While there is no threat to students or staff, we appreciate the actions of our teacher who correctly identified something suspicious and initiated the lockdown,” the statement said. “Our instructional day is beginning as planned.”
