U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers discovered over $14 million worth of methamphetamine concealed in a shipment of bell peppers and cucumbers last week.

On April 11, CBP officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas encountered a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico with a shipment manifested as bell peppers and cucumbers. The vehicle was referred for secondary inspection using non-intrusive equipment and canines.

Officers extracted 300 packages that were concealed within the trailer. They contained a total of 1,635.56 pounds of alleged methamphetamine worth an estimated $14,620,900.

“Our CBP officers continue to use all tools and resources to safeguard our borders by preventing these harmful narcotics from reaching Americas streets,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, said in a statement.

CBP seized the vehicle and the narcotics, and Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal investigation.
