U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the recent seizure of more than 100 pounds of methamphetamine from a vehicle driven by a U.S. citizen.

Border Patrol agents conducting immigration inspections at the Javier Vega Jr. Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77 in Kingsville, Texas, on April 4 encountered a Ford Escape, and a canine alerted to the vehicle.

Agents searched the vehicle and discovered 90 bundles concealed behind trim panels and inside the vehicle. The bundles contained a total of approximately 102 pounds of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $3,264,000.

The driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and the case was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“I applaud the efforts and diligence of our Border Patrol agents in taking this large amount of extremely dangerous drugs off the streets,” RGV Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez said in a statement. “We will continue to work with our partner agencies to help ensure these drug traffickers are held accountable.”
