U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they arrested an Arizona teenager for allegedly attempting to pass firearms, knives and ammunition through a border barrier into Mexico.

Border Patrol agents at Nogales Station spotted the 16-year-old boy on surveillance video approaching a border barrier in Nogales at around 1:45 a.m. on April 4. The teen was carrying a large duffel bag, which he allegedly tried to force through the barrier before running away.

Nearby Border Patrol agents responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. Agents also recovered the duffel bag, which allegedly contained an AR-style rifle, a pistol, two knives and various ammunition magazines.

The teen, described as a local resident, was transported to the Nogales Border Patrol Station for processing. The case is currently under review, and Homeland Security Investigations is working with the Assistant U.S. Attorneys office to determine appropriate charges.
